Golden hour is not a fixed sixty-minute period. Its duration and direction depend on latitude, season, local horizon, and the solar-altitude range that suits the photograph.

Place the subject before choosing the time

Mark the facade, portrait position, or landscape foreground rather than a parking area or general venue coordinate. The useful solar bearing is relative to that exact point and the intended camera direction.

Compare sun azimuth with camera direction

A small angular difference places the sun near the camera-facing direction. Roughly ninety degrees produces side light, while a large difference can create back light. Use the map to inspect which side of a street or facade receives the low-angle beam.

Add blockers and a weather check
