The problem

Sunrise times and compass direction are easy to find. The useful question is harder: will direct sun reach this exact balcony, window, garden bed or event area after the surrounding buildings and trees are considered?

SunCarta exists to make that question visual, interactive and inspectable. The person using the tool can correct the geometry instead of accepting a polished but opaque prediction.

Product principles

  • Useful before impressive. The point, direction, date and obstacles are more important than a heavy 3D world.
  • Evidence before scale. A page is indexable only when it contains a working tool, distinct explanation and visible limitations.
  • Local by default. The active project is stored in the browser unless a future sharing feature is explicitly chosen.
  • No false precision. Known solar geometry is separated from estimated scene geometry.
  • Global foundations. Coordinates, time zones and the sun model work worldwide; map and search coverage is disclosed where it varies.

Current release

Methodology version 1.1 includes a global 2D map, address, coordinate and current-location positioning, a draggable true-north orientation control, editable buildings, walls and trees, animated outdoor shadows, and room, balcony and garden views. Outdoor exposure and vertical-plane exposure use separate rules, and confidence remains explicitly dependent on the quality of the supplied inputs.
